Woman charged with multiple offenses after 2015 accident

Having a beer at a party or a glass of wine while out to dinner and then driving home is a relatively common act for many people in New Jersey. Doing this is not even against the law, so long as a driver's blood alcohol content does not exceed the legal limit. If this happens or if an accident takes place, the situation may be different, however.

Impaired driving in New Jersey

Every New Jersey driver likely has some awareness that the state has laws surrounding drunk driving. Between driver education and public awareness campaigns, it is hard to imagine that a driver would not know this at least. However, knowing exactly what may constitute drunk driving or what the penalties for an arrest in New Jersey may be is another thing.

Push to toughen drunk driving penalties

Certainly people in New Jersey are aware that drunk driving can be a serious problem. When an accident happens and people are injured or killed, it is understandable for the families of those involved to be upset. However, it is also important for people to remember that defendants have rights, too. The drunk driving laws are already tough but if one Republican State Senator has his way, they could get even tougher.
