Two men face multiple drug charges

When people are arrested and charged with drug-related crimes in New Jersey, they can end up facing multiple charges at one time. In some cases, the different charges are inter-related but in other cases, some charges can be for separate issues. Two men who were recently arrested in Roselle have been charged with multiple related and unrelated drug offenses.

Upon an initial attempt by police to stop their SUV, the two defendants sped off. When finally stopped, the passenger ran off but was apprehended by officers. The driver was arrested where the vehicle came to rest after running into a tree. For these actions, the driver has been charged with eluding officers and the passenger with resisting arrest.

For the five kilograms of cocaine found in the men’s vehicle, they have both been charged with two different charges of possession with intent to distribute the drug. One offense is a second-degree charge related to being within close proximity of a park. The other is a first-degree offense. If convicted of the latter charge, each man could face up to 20 years in prison. Related to a completely different issue, both defendants were charged with third-degree drug offenses. No other details about this charge are known. Bail for the passenger was set at $1.5 million and for the driver at $1 million.

Situations like this one in which defendants are accused of so many different crimes can be very complex indeed. People who have been charged with drug crimes may want to talk with an attorney promptly to discuss options for their defense.
