Three substances involved in drug arrest

New Jersey residents who find themselves arrested must quickly work to understand the charges they are accused of. When drug crimes are involved, there can be many types of charges and each one may result in unique penalties if a conviction is achieved. Drug charges may also be levied against people regarding illegal or controlled substances as well as illegal use of or activity with prescription drugs.

Crack cocaine, pot and heroin were all the subjects of a recent arrest in Monmouth County. Two men who were identified to be roommates have been arrested and remain on bails of $551,000 for one defendant and $401,000 for the other defendant. The intent to distribute drugs along with drug possession in the second degree is being alleged against both men. In addition to the drug offenses, charges relating to weapons were also made.

In making the arrest, law enforcement officials reportedly confiscated about $8,000 in cash and approximately 4,000 bags containing the various drugs inside. It is not known whether or not the items were found in the men's home or at another location. Details were also not given about what led to the arrest and when the men will appear in court to begin the process of defending themselves and navigating the judicial system.

From search and seizure to plea bargains to reduce charges to sentencing and more, there are many critical steps in a criminal defense. The complexity of these situations and the serious consequences that can be faced may make talking to an attorney useful early on for anyone who has been arrested.
