New Jersey motorist accused of DWI following wreck

On Oct. 9, a woman from Egg Harbor Township was suspected to be driving while under the influence due to erratic behavior reportedly witnessed by a New Jersey trooper. Police officials said that the woman ran into a curb in the parking lot of the Bass River Police Station along the New Jersey Turnpike.

The 56-year-old motorist had apparently entered the parking lot against the flow of traffic, and police implied that she may have been a match for a reported wrong-way driver that they had previously received calls about. The initial reports were generated close to 5 a.m., and the police officer that observed the incident was in the process of leaving to find the wrong-way driver at the time.

Shortly after the incident, the motorist was detained and charged with drunk driving. She additionally faces indictments for driving north in the southbound lanes, driving recklessly and refusing to submit to a breath test. Police also failed to confirm what the road conditions were like at the time of the incident, and it is uncertain whether she might have had any outstanding medical issues that could have contributed to her actions.

Authorities are still responsible for proving their accusations in court if intoxication is suspected. Motorists who take medication or suffer from health issues may find that their symptoms mimic the effects of alcohol or drugs. If evidence to the contrary is compelling, an attorney might be able to assist a client in proceeding though a plea bargain in order to mitigate penalties.
