Police charge New Jersey man with intent to distribute

In early September, a 40-year-old man was detained by New Jersey State Police. According to law enforcement officials, the encounter took place at the man's home on Union City's Paterson Plank Road; police claim that upon taking him into custody, they also discovered and seized a number of different drugs whose worth surpassed more than $100,000. The drugs allegedly seized included heroin, ecstasy, marijuana, cocaine, methamphetamine, Xanax, OxyContin and LSD; it should be noted that a majority of the substances listed had not actually been confirmed at the time of reporting.

The authorities tacked intent to distribute allegations onto the man's drug possession charges. Police additionally claimed to have seized more than $25,000 in cash, a handgun and hollow-point bullets. As a result, the accused man was also charged with possessing a firearm as a felon, having hollow-point bullets and possessing a firearm while committing drug crimes.

Reports said that the authorities tried to buy drugs from the man undercover; notably, news sources did not specify whether the man actually sold police any drugs. Because the allegations include charges for intending to distribute the drugs within the vicinity of a school and public property, he may face additional penalties should he be convicted.

When authorities make drug busts, they may overestimate the value of seized substances in order to present their cases or departments in a better light. Although multiple concurrent criminal charges can portray individuals in a negative fashion, those who stand accused may still wish to consider alternatives to plea bargains and learn more about the manner in which evidence was gathered prior to mounting a defense. An attorney may be able to assist throughout this process.
