New Jersey man charged with DUI-related vehicular homicide

According to the Foundation for Advancing Alcohol Responsibility, there were over 25,000 DUI arrests in New Jersey in 2012. The best strategy for avoiding arrest and the subsequent serious consequences for DUI may be simply not to drink and drive.

However, some people end up facing DUI charges even if they were not over the legal limit at the time of their arrests, due to bad police work as well as a number of other issues. Nonetheless, depending on the circumstances, just one arrest can lead to a number of future problems in a person's life, including financial, legal and emotional difficulties.

One New Jersey man is currently involved in one of the worst possible scenarios. He is being charged with aggravated manslaughter and vehicular homicide after allegedly striking a pedestrian with his car, resulting in her death.

A grand jury recently issued an indictment against the man after hearing testimony that he was driving under the influence when he lost control of his car and hit the young woman who was walking home from work. The woman died in the hospital two days later.

The charges against the man could result in a prison sentence of 20 years to life.

If you or a loved one is facing DUI charges, it is important not to try to go it alone. An experienced criminal defense attorney can help protect a defendant's constitutional due process rights and help hold the prosecution to the strict standard of proof required to obtain a conviction.
