Altercation at Brick Chuck E. Cheese leads to 3 arrests

Recently, a dispute at a Chuck E. Cheese restaurant in Brick Township led to three arrests. A 44-year-old Toms River man reportedly lost his temper and, according to police, threatened to "shoot up" the restaurant. Police say that he accosted a party-going patron and demanded money, which the Toms River man claimed he was owed.

Authorities claim that he tried to take money out of the other man's pockets. At some point, a relative of the accosted patron called police, who arrested the Toms River man now facing a robbery charge.

The altercation also led to the arrests of two other men. A 21-year-old Lakewood resident is accused of possessing a stun gun and possessing drugs in a motor vehicle. Police arrested a 22-year-old Asbury Park man for marijuana possession and possession of drug paraphernalia. It was unclear what probable cause police may have had for searching the men or their property.

There was also no mention of any weapons charges brought against the Toms River man accused of threatening to open fire in the Chuck E. Cheese. He was not given a 10-percent posting option for his bail of $350,000.

Whether it is a charge of robbery, burglary or a white-collar offense such as embezzlement, property crime charges are aggressively prosecuted in New Jersey. If a prosecutor can prove that a defendant meant to inflict bodily harm in the commission of a theft or burglary, then the possible penalties are even more severe. Defendants faced with a robbery or theft charge should be aware of their defense options.
