Mom: I did not strike my child's classmates

The mother of a 9-year-old girl who was allegedly bullied at school is facing assault charges after being accused of confronting the boy who had been causing the trouble. The woman, age 28, is accused of boarding a school bus along with her 51-year-old mother in an attempt to intimidate the child into behaving. The conflict reportedly escalated after the women began yelling at the boy.

Some witness reports indicate that the New Jersey women struck the boy, along with another that was sitting next to him on the bus. The younger woman is facing charges of simple assault, criminal trespass and making terrorist threats, while her mother is charged only with criminal trespass.

The girl's mother says that she regrets getting on the bus to confront the boy, but she adamantly denies any physical contact. She also says that her mother simply stood at the front of the bus with the driver while she spoke with the youngsters. The woman said she was upset about the continued bullying, but she would never strike another person's child.

The woman said she decided to speak to the bus bullies because they had been continually harassing her fourth-grade daughter. School officials reportedly did not protect the girl to the woman's satisfaction, and so she decided to personally talk to the bullies.

Reports indicate that the two boys were treated by school nurses for cuts to their mouths. One of the youngsters was taken to a local hospital by his parents to investigate a supposed neck injury, according to media reports.

It is not clear whether the bus was equipped with security cameras to record the alleged violations. In this case, the primary witnesses are all children, who are known to over-exaggerate events, and occasionally do not remember events with complete accuracy.

A court date has not yet been announced in connection with the case.
