Have you or someone you know recently been arrested and charged with drunk driving in New Jersey? If so, you are not alone. There are many people just like you who have gone through this experience. Contrary to what some may think, it is not just irresponsible people who can be in your position. Social drinking is a common and often integral part of today’s life, both professional and personal. From family holiday celebrations to workgroup happy hours, sharing an alcoholic beverage with others is something most people do on a regular basis.
While men and women of any age may be arrested for drunk driving, there are some statistics that show that show that people who drink a relatively large number of drinks in a short span of time may be more likely to be involved in accidents. In fact, 85 percent of drunk driving crashes may be attributed to people who fall in this category according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Women who consume four or more drinks or men who consume five or more drinks at one time can be considered binge drinkers.
Other statistics from the CDC show that men are more often arrested for drunk driving. In as many as 80 percent of arrests, men are the defendants. Males of legal drinking age and under 35 are also more often associated with nearly one-third of DUI crashes.
