Man charged with stabbing over bottle of liquor

On Dec. 14, a 25-year-old New Jersey man was accused of stabbing another man over a bottle of liquor, according to authorities. A detective with the Little Ferry Police Department stated that the accused man and the person who was reportedly stabbed had been part of a group celebrating another person's birthday when the incident occurred.

The injured person stated that the alleged attack happened as the group was leaving. After being stabbed in the back, the injured man left the scene and went to the local police. He reportedly identified the accused man to officers. He was then taken to Hackensack University Medical Center for treatment of the injury.

When the authorities arrived at the accused man's Midland Park home, he allegedly attacked the officers. However, no officers were hurt. After he was taken into custody, the authorities searched the man's home and seized the knife used in the incident. The accused man was ultimately charged with possession of a knife, aggravated assault, resisting arrest and aggravated assault on a police officer. He remained in custody when the report was released in lieu of $150,000 bail.

Assault charges have serious consequences for those who are convicted. However, there are a large number of different defenses that can be utilized by a criminal defense attorney. For example, an attorney may review police reports of the incident for inaccuracies as well as question the alleged victim's version of events. An attorney might also be helpful in mitigating some of the penalties of the charges by negotiating a plea deal with prosecutors.
