Man with long criminal record faces new drug charges

A New Jersey man with multiple criminal convictions on his record was taken into custody on Sept. 22 for allegedly distributing buprenorphine and oxycodone. The 47-year-old Jersey City man was accused of possessing 46 buprenorphine pills, two oxycodone pills, one bag of heroin and various drug paraphernalia items. He was accused of distributing the oxycodone and buprenorphine at a public housing complex in Hoboken.

Police detained the man around 1 p.m. and charged him with two counts of possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute near school property and near public property. He was also charged with one count of trespassing and handed multiple drug possession charges for the heroin and drug paraphernalia that was allegedly found. A 52-year-old man was also taken into custody on the same day for possession of buprenorphine.

According to reports, the 47-year-old man's prior criminal record includes 28 incidents that took place in New Jersey. His convictions in New Jersey include 12 counts of disorderly persons, four counts of burglary, two counts of drug possession, two counts of receiving stolen property and one count of theft. The man was also reportedly detained six times in Virginia and once in New York.

A person with a significant number of prior convictions who is facing a set of new charges may achieve a more favorable outcome with legal representation. Despite a past criminal history, a lawyer may argue that prior convictions do not indicate a defendant's guilt in relation to the latest charges. After attempting to uncover any unlawful actions committed by police during the incident, a lawyer may look for areas of weakness in the prosecution's case that can be disputed with contradictory evidence.
