In a sting operation, following five months of police work, authorities have made a series of arrests across New Jersey. The charges include drug possession and distribution.
Search and seizures in several residences yielded drug paraphernalia, materials that could be used to package drugs for distribution, handguns, heroin, and marijuana.
Two of the suspects were arrested in a traffic stop; two children were in the backseat of the car they were driving. This added child endangerment to the firearms possession and drug charges.
Authorities began investigating the alleged drug ring in November 2013, after a tipster named three of the suspects as part of a heroin distribution ring. Two of the men lived with women who were also apprehended and charged with assisting in drug distribution. Several police forces and task forces were involved in the operation.
One of the weapons recovered in the sting was defaced and another was listed as stolen. Defacing a handgun is an additional charge. The three men who are allegedly at the center of the drug distribution ring, who range in age from 29 to 40, were also charged with conspiracy to distribute.
The drug ring apparently stretched across several New Jersey counties and included more than two dozen people. Police calculate that the supposed street value of the heroin seized in the raid is approximately $3,000.
Drug charges like these are extremely serious. In New Jersey, drug charges can lead to harsh penalties including jail time. Having an experienced attorney on your side when facing such charges can help alleviate some of your concerns and assist you with defending your rights.
