Toms River man accused of robbing bank with imitation gun

If a person used a toy weapon in the commission of a robbery, that person can still be charged with a weapons crime in addition to armed robbery. Still, in such cases, there could be a range of factors that lead to a reduction or dismissal of criminal charges. In defense of a person accused of armed robbery, it is important to conduct an in-depth analysis of evidence such as surveillance video and witness statements.

Despite what police and prosecutors would have us believe, witness testimony is not always reliable, and police do make procedural errors that can result in evidence being suppressed from the court. In any case, being accused of a theft or robbery in New Jersey can have serious consequences, and accused individuals will need a solid defense strategy to achieve the best possible outcome.

A Toms River man is up against such allegations. Police released photos of a person who robbed a Chase Bank, and apparently information came in that led to the arrest of the Toms River man. He is also facing a weapons charge, though police say that an imitation handgun was used in the bank robbery.

One customer and four bank employees were reportedly in the bank when the robbery occurred. Police indicated that the amount taken from the bank came to about $200.

It remains to be seen whether or not prosecutors have enough evidence to convict the suspect now in custody. Bank robbery allegations can lead to time in federal prison, and individuals accused of such a crime should take the necessary legal steps to protect against a negative outcome.
