Trio arrested for alleged drug crimes

Three Salem City, New Jersey, residents are facing drug charges after a so-called quality of life investigation. These efforts by area law enforcement officers are designed to limit the open-air use and sale of narcotics in Salem City. Authorities report the arrests occurred on July 24 after the conclusion of an inquiry into alleged drug distribution and purchasing in the region.

One of the defendants, a 23-year-old man, was taken into police custody after he was allegedly observed making a suspected narcotics transaction. Task force members had spent time watching the man, who is accused of making multiple drug sales at the intersection of Wesley and Eakin streets in Salem City. Official reports indicate the defendant was holding more than 60 bags of cocaine, 11 vials of marijuana and a large bundle of cash at the time of his arrest. That man also had several outstanding warrants, according to official reports.

The first defendant has been charged with several drug charges, including possession with intent to distribute both marijuana and cocaine. The man is also facing heightened charges because his alleged drug crimes occurred within 1,000 feet of an educational institution in the area.

Later in the operation, a 28-year-old man and a 30-year-old woman were arrested after officers reportedly found a significant quantity of prescription medication and marijuana on their persons. Both of those defendants have been released pending a future hearing, but they are currently facing drug possession and drug paraphernalia charges.

Even though these defendants have been arrested for alleged drug crimes, they are not automatically considered guilty. This trio should consider seeking the assistance of a qualified criminal defense attorney to help them understand more about the charges they are facing and their legal options. Professional lawyers can help defendants learn more about their plea options, providing them with valuable assistance from indictment through sentencing and beyond. If you are facing similar charges, consider talking to a New Jersey criminal defense lawyer to help you through your case.
