Suspects arrested for alleged shooting

Two men have been arrested in connection with the death of the 18-year-old son of a former police officer in the Trenton, New Jersey, area. The men, aged 22 and 20, were arrested on Feb. 26 and 27 after allegedly gunning down the teen just one day before. The older suspect is facing several felony charges, including murder, burglary and weapons violations, among others. The younger suspect also faces weapons charges for his role in the death.

Details of the crime have been scarce in the media, though it appears that the young man was shot inside a house following a dispute with the suspects. His car had been damaged in an altercation with the suspects, according to initial reports. Authorities recovered the vehicle used by the suspects on Tuesday, the same day as the arrests.

The victim is the son of a notable police officer featured on the popular show "Manhunters: Fugitive Task Force," an A&E reality show. The officers in the man's former unit actually arrested the two suspects, though it is unclear whether that will be featured on the show.

The case is still under active investigation, and authorities are only releasing scant details about the shooting until a body of evidence is available.

Since authorities are being so tight-lipped, it is not clear whether the suspects have been placed at the crime scene with DNA, video, or other types of evidence. That information will allow the suspects' defense attorneys to make better decisions about potential plea deals and other legal actions. It is possible that the suspects could arrange plea deals to provide additional information about the other person. In that event, the prosecutors might be willing to reduce the charges.

As more information becomes available, the two suspects will have to decide whether they want to risk facing a jury trial in connection with the crime, or if they would like to enter a guilty plea. The guilty plea could provide them with a guaranteed shorter prison term, while a jury trial is more risky.
